Recorder

A Recorder is a bus type that writes its mix to a WAV file on disk instead of playing it anywhere. Route channels into it like any other bus (Routing matrix or SENDS), then press REC to start capturing exactly what that bus outputs — after its own EQ, Limiter, and Loudness Normalization, so what's recorded always matches what the bus's meters show. Turn those off on the bus if you want an unprocessed capture instead; there's no separate clean/processed toggle to learn.

Recorder is a free feature — no Premium gate.

Adding one

Channels (menu bar) → OUTPUTS+ Add → pick Recorder (write to file) as the output type. It behaves like any other bus otherwise — fader, mute, solo, routing — it just has no device to point at.

Recording

REC / Pause / Stop live on the bus's strip and its HOME tab, alongside a live scrolling waveform of what's being written and a running elapsed time / file size readout.

  • REC starts a new take, named {BusName}_{yyyyMMdd_HHmmss}.wav, written into the shared Recordings folder (see Settings → Media).
  • Pause / Resume — hold without closing the file.
  • Stop closes the file. Recording state isn't remembered across a restart — every session starts idle, whether or not something was recording when you closed the app.

You can run several Recorder buses at once — each is independent, with its own file and its own transport.

A Recorder bus's HOME tab — a red REC indicator and badge, the live L/R waveform, REC/Pause/Stop transport, an elapsed time and file size readout, the take's filename, and free disk space, alongside the bus's usual LIM/EQ/DELAY chain and LUFS loudness readouts.

Bit depth

Set per-bus on the SETUP tab: 16-bit or 24-bit. Everything else about the destination — the folder, and the two safety-guard thresholds below — is one shared setting across every Recorder bus in the project; the Setup tab shows them read-only with a pointer to where to actually change them.

Safety guards

Two independent limits, both configurable in Settings → Media, either of which auto-stops a running recording and surfaces a warning:

  • Auto-stop after a set duration (default 120 minutes) — catches a recording left running by accident.
  • Auto-stop below a set amount of free disk space (default 500 MB) — catches you running out of room mid-take.

Either can be turned off (set to 0).

Missing folder

If the Recordings folder doesn't exist — moved, deleted, an unplugged external drive — the bus shows a warning on its Setup tab, Home tab, and in the Simple Media tray before you press REC and get a failure, not after.

In Simple mode

Recorder buses get full transport (REC/Pause/Stop, live waveform, elapsed/file size) in the Media tray, the same as Player and Soundboard. A live REC tag appears in the Media tray's header any time a recording is running, even if you've since selected something else in the tray. Since a Recorder bus already gets that full transport up there, it can optionally be hidden from the plain fader-card Output rack below it too — see Settings → Interface — so it isn't shown twice with two different levels of control.

Hotkeys, Automation & Open API

Start Recording, Stop Recording, and Toggle Recording are available as Hotkey, Automation, and Open API actions — e.g. "start recording automatically when a game launches." Pause isn't included on that list — it stays a manual, on-screen-only control.
