Discord Voice Setup

Discord should hear your polished microphone — gated, EQ'd and compressed — and nothing else: not your music, not your game's explosions unless you want them. Aura Mixer lets you hand Discord a custom mic feed, the same way you hand OBS a custom stream mix.

What you'll need

  • A virtual audio cable (VB-Audio CABLE, Voicemeeter or VAC) — Discord will use it as its "microphone".
  • A microphone channel with some processing. The whole core chain — noise gate, EQ and compressor — is free; see Clean up your microphone.
💡 Free vs Premium bus count

Main L+R + a Discord bus = two buses, which fits the Free tier. Add a separate Stream bus on top and you're into Premium territory.

1. Build the Discord output bus

Menu → ChannelsOUTPUTS+ Add a 🎧 PHYS bus named Discord. In its SETUP, set the output device to your virtual cable's playback endpoint — cables show up in the same device list as real hardware.

2. Send only your mic to it

Open the Routing matrix. In the Discord column, light only the microphone's cell. Leave music and game dark there — your friends get your voice, not your soundtrack. (Want them to hear game audio too? Light that row as well, and ride its Discord send level on the SENDS tab.)

3. Tell Discord to use the cable

In Discord → Settings → Voice & Video:

  • Input Device → the recording side of your virtual cable (e.g. CABLE Output).
  • Turn off Discord's own Noise Suppression (Krisp), Echo Cancellation and Automatic Gain Control — you're already doing that work in Aura Mixer, and doubling up only smears the sound.

4. (Optional) Hear your friends on their own channel

Want your friends' voices on a fader — to balance them, record them, or pass them to your stream? Add a 🎯 APP channel capturing Discord (see Capture a single app) and route it to Main L+R. Add it to your Stream bus only if everyone's okay being on stream.

5. Check and save

Set the monitor bar's MONITOR dropdown to Discord to hear precisely what your call receives. Happy with it? Save the layout as a scene named Discord.
