Player
A Player channel plays an audio file — or a whole list of them — straight into the mixer, exactly like any other input: full Gate/EQ/Compressor/FX/Spatial processing, its own fader, routed anywhere you like. Use it for a music bed, sound effects, ambience, or intro/outro stingers, without patching in a separate media player and capturing it as a LOOP/APP channel.
This page covers a single Player channel and its playlist. For a grid of short one-shot clips triggered on demand (voice lines, alert sounds, meme sounds), see Soundboard instead — same underlying playback engine, very different job.
Adding one
Channels (menu bar) → + Add → Player. It's Advanced-only to configure — see Simple mode below for what you get there.
A Free-tier Player channel can be created and fully configured — pick a file, build a playlist, everything — it just stays silent until you upgrade. See Accounts & Premium.
Loading a file
SETUP tab → Audio File — a dropdown of recently-used files (shared across every Player channel in the mixer, so a file you picked once is one click away on another channel too) plus Browse… for anything else. Supports WAV, MP3, FLAC, and OGG. A file that's since been moved or deleted shows the same ⚠ missing treatment a disconnected device gets elsewhere in the app, rather than crashing or failing silently.
Eject clears the loaded file without deleting anything else about the channel's setup.
WAV files carry their real channel layout — load a 5.1 or 7.1 WAV and Channel mode (same field every other channel type uses) offers 5.1/7.1 automatically, folding through Binaural HRTF on the SPATIAL tab exactly like a multichannel capture device would. MP3/FLAC/OGG are always treated as their native channel count (in practice, mono or stereo).
Transport
The HOME tab (and the Simple Media tray) give you:
- Play / Pause / Stop — Stop rewinds to the beginning; Pause holds position.
- Seek bar — drag to jump anywhere in the file, with a live elapsed/duration readout.
- Loop — repeats the single loaded file. Toggling it live doesn't restart playback.
A live waveform of the file's own decoded audio (not the raw file — after this channel's Gate/Comp/EQ/Spatial processing, so it shows what actually reaches the mix) draws across the top, same as a Recorder's.
Playlists
Add a second file and the channel becomes a playlist — an ordered queue instead of one track:
- Add another track (Setup tab) or Manage playlist (Simple's Media tray, which opens a dedicated editor to keep its own card compact) — drag the ⠿ handle to reorder, remove entries you don't want.
- Next ⏭ / Previous ⏮ appear on the transport once there are 2+ tracks — hidden entirely below that, so a single-file Player stays exactly as simple as before.
- Repeat cycles Off → Repeat All (loops the whole list) → Repeat One (loops just the current track) with one button — a small 1 badge shows when Repeat One is active.
- Shuffle plays the list in random order, guaranteeing every track plays once before any repeats. Previous while shuffling walks back through what actually played, not another random pick.
- A file entry that's gone missing since you added it is skipped automatically when the playlist reaches it, rather than stopping the whole queue.
The channel advances to the next track on its own when one finishes — you don't need to keep the Home tab or Media tray open for it to keep going; a background service watches for you.
In Simple mode
The Media tray, a card above the output rack, shows Play/Pause/Stop/Seek/Loop for every Player channel in the project (see Simple mode) — pick one from the dropdown at the top of the card, and its transport (plus Next/Previous/Repeat/Shuffle once it has a playlist) appears below. The Player's regular sound card still carries Gate/Comp/EQ/3D Surround/Effects and its fader, exactly like a mic — the Media tray only adds what a mic-type card has no use for: play/pause and a playlist.
Hotkeys, Automation & Open API
Play, Pause, Stop, Toggle Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Cycle Repeat Mode, and Toggle Shuffle are all available as Hotkey actions, Automation actions, and Open API actions — bind a key to skip tracks, or auto-play a music bed when a scene recalls.
